Background of the Study
Global trade policies significantly influence domestic economic reforms by shaping regulatory frameworks, market access, and competitive dynamics. In Lagos State, reforms inspired by multilateral trade agreements have transformed local economic landscapes, prompting structural changes in key industries (Xavier, 2023). This study examines the impact of global trade policies on domestic economic reforms, focusing on how trade liberalization, tariff adjustments, and intellectual property standards drive local policy changes and economic modernization (Young, 2024). The research explores the channels through which international trade norms are translated into national economic strategies, assessing their effects on industrial competitiveness, job creation, and overall economic growth. Through analysis of trade data, policy documents, and stakeholder interviews, the study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the interplay between global trade policies and domestic reforms in Lagos State, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with integration into the global economy (Zhang, 2025).

Statement of the problem
Despite the adoption of global trade policies, Lagos State continues to face challenges in implementing domestic economic reforms effectively. Critics argue that while trade liberalization creates new opportunities, inconsistencies in policy application, regulatory inertia, and external market fluctuations can undermine reform efforts (Xavier, 2023). This study addresses whether global trade policies are translating into meaningful and sustainable domestic reforms or if structural and operational barriers persist, hindering economic growth and competitiveness in Lagos State (Young, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

To assess the influence of global trade policies on domestic economic reforms.

To evaluate the effectiveness of reform measures in Lagos State.

To recommend policy adjustments to enhance reform outcomes.

Research questions

How do global trade policies shape domestic economic reforms in Lagos State?

What challenges impede effective reform implementation?

What policy measures can improve economic outcomes?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it critically examines the impact of global trade policies on domestic economic reforms, providing valuable insights for policymakers aiming to optimize reform strategies. The findings will help enhance competitiveness and sustainable growth in Lagos State by bridging the gap between international standards and local implementation (Zhang, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to evaluating the impact of global trade policies on domestic economic reforms in Lagos State, focusing on economic and regulatory aspects.

Definitions of terms

Global trade policies: International rules and agreements governing trade.
